Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area

Generations of history come together with miles of fun at Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area
The Setting

The park occupies a series of peninsulas on Lake Greenwood, which itself offers 212 miles of shoreline and 11,400 acres of boating and fishing opportunities year-round.
Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area is one of 16 state parks in South Carolina built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. That history is captured in the park’s CCC museum, which also serves as a popular reception and meeting center.

CCC structures remaining at the park include picnic shelters, a boathouse, water fountain and lakeside terrace.
In addition to lakeside camping, picnicking and hiking, the park also hosts the South Carolina Half-Iron Man Competition, a popular endurance contest, each fall.

Many sites accommodate up to 40 feet
All sites are convenient to hot showers and restrooms

Group Camping Area: The primitive group camping area is ideal for organized groups up to 50 people

Park Features

Fishing-Enjoy fishing in Lake Greenwood for bass, crappie, bream, perch, catfish, stripers. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required Boating - Three boat ramps provide private boat acces to Lake Greenwood Picnicking-Four picnic shelters are available for family or other group gatherings. Education Center- The John and Holly Self Drummond Conservation Education and Conference Center features an extensive , interactive exhibit recounting the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the New Deal-era work teams who built state parks and other long-lasting conservation and recreation projects throughout the nation. Trails- The 0.8-mile nature trail begins at the recreation building located in campground #1.
